The SOFAR SOLAR SOFAR-3.6KTLM-G3 grid-connected inverter is designed for single-phase residential photovoltaic installations, particularly when the roof has multiple orientations or shading, in order to optimise production thanks to its 2 MPPT trackers and I-V curve scanning.
The Sofar Solar 3.6KTLM-G3 is a 3, 680 W single-phase grid-tied inverter from the KTLM-G3 range — a separate platform that is technically superior to the TL-G3 range. Whereas the 1100 to 3300TL-G3 models are single-MPPT inverters for simple rooftops, the 3.6KTLM-G3 features 2 independent MPPT channels, a maximum efficiency of 98.2% (the highest in the Sofar catalogue available from Wattuneed), I-V curve scanning for anti-shading optimisation, and the ability to operate at altitudes of up to 4,000 metres. Supplied with a Wi-Fi dongle as standard and covered by a 10-year warranty, it is the ideal solution for multi-oriented residential roofs, partially shaded roofs or high-altitude sites.
The 3.6KTLM-G3 features 2 independent MPPT trackers, each accepting 1 string and a maximum input current of 15A (permitted short-circuit current 22.5A per MPPT). The MPPT range extends from 80 to 550 Vdc, with a maximum input voltage of 600 Vdc and a nominal voltage of 380 Vdc. The full-power MPPT range is 200 to 500 Vdc. The start-up voltage is 90 Vdc. The maximum DC power per MPPT is 3,500 W, for a recommended maximum total PV power of 5,400 Wp. The two independent MPPTs allow two strings of panels to be connected with different orientations, tilt angles or numbers of modules, without the underperformance of one string affecting the other. This is the ideal solution for L-shaped roofs, gable roofs with different pitches (east/west), or installations where only one side is partially shaded.
The 3.6KTLM-G3 achieves a maximum efficiency of 98.2% and a European weighted efficiency of 97.3% — the highest figures of all Sofar Solar grid-connected inverters available from Wattuneed. By way of comparison, the 3000TL-G3 and 3300TL-G3 models achieve 97.7% max and 97.2% European, whilst the 1100–2700TL-G3 models are limited to 97.5% max. On a system producing 3,500 kWh/year, the difference in efficiency between 97.2% and 97.3% (European standard) amounts to approximately 3.5 kWh more per year — admittedly modest, but indicative of the technological superiority of the KTLM-G3 platform.
The 3.6KTLM-G3 incorporates an I-V (current-voltage) curve scanning function — a capability absent from the 1 MPPT TL-G3 models. This scanning involves periodically scanning the entire characteristic curve of each string to identify the overall maximum power point, even in the presence of partial shading that creates several local maxima on the curve. This analysis allows the MPPT algorithm to reposition itself on the true global maximum and avoid getting stuck on a sub-optimal local maximum. Combined with the two independent MPPT trackers, this I-V scanning makes the 3.6KTLM-G3 the most robust solution in the Sofar range for roofs with variable shading.
The 3.6KTLM-G3 is certified for operation at altitudes of up to 4,000 m — twice the 2,000 m limit of the TL-G3 models in the range. This exceptional capability is particularly important for installations in mountainous areas (the Alps, the Deep Ardennes, the Pyrenees, the Moroccan Atlas Mountains) where thin air reduces heat dissipation capacity and can cause derating or failure of inverters not certified for these altitudes. The 3.6KTLM-G3 maintains its rated performance up to 4,000 m altitude, making it the go-to choice for any high-altitude installation in Europe and the Mediterranean countries.
The 3.6KTLM-G3 offers an adjustable active power range from 0 to 100% of the rated power. This feature allows the grid operator or installer to precisely limit the power fed into the grid, from zero feed-in (total zero export mode) up to full power. This fine-tuning capability is particularly useful for installations subject to specific connection constraints or for integration into energy management systems (EMS) that dynamically control the power fed into the grid based on tariffs or the needs of the local grid.
The 3.6KTLM-G3 comes with a Wi-Fi dongle as standard, enabling immediate connection to the SolarMan monitoring portal (iOS and Android app, web interface) upon commissioning. The portal provides real-time access to instant production figures, daily curves, monthly and annual totals, and alerts in the event of an anomaly. Configuration is carried out via the mobile app or directly via the built-in LCD screen, accessible via Bluetooth.
The 3.6KTLM-G3 features Bluetooth as standard, allowing direct connection from a smartphone without a Wi-Fi network. Using the SofarSolar app, the installer can configure the inverter settings, view real-time production data and read alerts — ideal during commissioning or for quick on-site diagnostics. The built-in LCD screen displays production information and operating statuses.
The 3.6KTLM-G3’s firmware can be updated locally via USB or remotely via Wi-Fi/GPRS from the SolarMan portal, without the need for an on-site visit — invaluable for installers managing a multi-site portfolio.
The 3.6KTLM-G3 incorporates the same advanced network management features as the TL-G3 range:
The 3.6KTLM-G3 is cooled exclusively by natural convection — without a fan. The noise level is less than 25 dB. The anodised aluminium housing (349 × 344 × 164 mm, 9.2 kg) is larger than the TL-G3 models (321 × 260 × 131.5 mm), reflecting the 2 MPPT architecture and higher power output. IP65 protection ensures it can be installed indoors or outdoors in damp and dusty environments. Resistance to humidity from 0 to 100% RH and a temperature range of -30°C to +60°C further enhance the unit’s robustness.
The Sofar Solar 3.6KTLM-G3 is C10/11 certified, ensuring compliance with the requirements of network operators in Belgium. With a rated power of 3,680 W, it remains below the Synergrid limit of 5,000 VA single-phase. It is also certified to VDE-AR-N 4105, G98/G99, EN 50549, IEC 0-21 and RD1699.
